Camigliatello Silano, set to 1270 meters above sea level, in the commune of Spezzano della Sila, is the most famous tourist mountain place of Calabria. It’s found on the speedway n. 107 halfway along the route between Cosenza and San Giovanni in Fiore, therefore it is reachable from these two centres, in few more than 15 minutes. How San Giovanni in Fiore, Camigliatello Silano, is set in a central zone of the highland from which numerous other places of tourist interest can be reached. Surrounded from dense woods of coniferous is about few kilometers from the lake Cecita and from the Visitors Centre of Cupone in the National Park of Calabria. Very close to Camigliatello it’s also the Natural Reserve of Fallistro in Croce di Magara (Magara’s Cross). Very popular both in winter and in summer, Camigliatello, is provided with ski tow and footsteps for winter sports situated on the Curcio mountain. The center has an innate tourist vocation, consolidated in the decades, that it is concretized with a great presence of hotel receptive infrastructures of comfort and recreational. Notable it’s also the offer of a great variety of handicraft and gastronomic typical products of the highland of Sila. In the period in which the mushrooms spring, the center is reached by about ten buyers and the small but interesting local market assumes a great economic importance. The history of Camigliatello Silano begins in the first years of 1900 when some artisan enterprises rose in the place. After a few years it was open a postal counter. The true turn there was in the 1928 thanks to the engagement of Michele Bianchi. The fascist "quadrumviro" also spent the vacations on this place to find relief to his illness. He was the first one that believed in the tourist exploitation of the Sila and in particolar way of Camigliatello. Thanks to his intervention, the shelter was built for tourists and it began the construction of the narrow gauge railway between Cosenza and San Giovanni in Fiore. To the public infrastructures a lot of private initiatives were placed side by side and in a pair of ten years Camigliatello became one of the most famous and frequented tourist places of Southern Italy.
The hotel rises twos kilometers from the ski resort. Its location is a good point of departures for trips and visits:
  • To the lakes (Cecita, Ampollino, Arvo,...);
  • To the abbey Florense of S. Giovanni in Fiore (around 30 Kms) and to the abbey of the Sambucina of Luzzi (around 30 Kms) that they still play again some prophetic voice of Gioacchino da Fiore, celebrated by Dante in his/her Comedy;
  • To famous Longobucco which is for carpets of handicraft workmanship;
  • To classical archaeological places and the museums of Crotone and Sibari;
  • To the Byzantine Rossano, where is preserved one of the most ancient manuscripts of the New Will, the Codex Purpureus;
  • For trips to the Jonio and Tyrrhenian Seas, outdistancing from the one and from the other 60 Km with a fast flowing road which unites the two seas.
For the one who comes by car:

The position of centrality of the hotel Aquila & Edelweiss easily makes it reachable in auto both if one comes from the ionic area, crossing the S.S. 106, and if one comes from the tirrenic side on the S.S. 18. In both cases however, with the exits of Cosenza, Rogliano, Altilia Grimaldi and, more to south, of Lamezia Terme, the motorway artery «A3» represents the primary road axle on which to address own choice if the routes had to be more and more kilometers. Different then the orientation in transversal sense to climb above until the district of Sila, that we know how to be longitudinally inclusive between Cosenza and Catanzaro. The S.S. 107” silano-crotonese”, excellent intermediary run inside the district and therefore ideally equidistant from the Sila Greca, Grande, Piccola. The S.S. 280 of the Due Mari (Two Seas), on the isthmus Lamezia Terme-Catanzaro and more to south the S.S. 281 of Rosarno, open the traveller to further possible routes.

For the one who comes by train:

The Ferrovie dello Stato offers one diversified range of choices to reach the Park by train. The stations of Paola, Lamezia Terme, Catanzaro and Crotone result the principal ganglions from which subsequently leaving again to the Sila, with the narrow gauge railway of the Ferrovie della Calabria (Cosenza-Catanzaro and vice versa). A further line in vapor locomotive – Camigliatello, San Giovanni in Fiore, Camigliatello – is always ready to satisfy the curiosity of the travel by cars of epoch.

For the one who comes by bus:

The buses of line, private or managed by the Ferrovie della Calabria, become an almost obvious support to which to apply for completing the routes up to the select destinations. During the summer period, from the ionic shore with daily nature, but also from that tirrenic one, they climb up to the Sila.

For the one who comes by airplane:

If one chooses the airplane, in few less than two hours from Milan and from Turin and even less from Rome and Bologna, direct flights can reach the two nearest airports to the Sila, that one of Lamezia Terme on the tirrenic slope and that one of Crotone S.Anna on the ionic slope.
